The Artist Behind the Lens: Discover Connor McLaren Photography

Hi, I’m Connor!

I am a DC native and began photographing my friends as a hobby while attending the University of Pennsylvania, where I majored in psychology and minored in Deaf studies. Upon graduating in 2016, I took a leap of faith and turned my passion for photography into what has been an incredibly rewarding gig.

I love creating memorable, true-to-life, and timeless photographs. With nearly a decade of experience as a professional Washington DC photographer, I have photographed conferences, trade shows, corporate gatherings, branding activations, political happenings, and charity galas. I'm often asked what sets me apart from other photographers, and my answer is that because I grew up with a hearing loss, I learned to perceive and interpret the world in ways others might overlook. In every photograph I take, I aim to convey not only what meets the eye but also the emotions, stories, and nuances that lie beneath the surface.

Some other things you may not know about me: when not doing photography, pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology keeps me pretty busy! Other interests of mine include trying new restaurants in the city; fashion; jewelry; interior design; and cosmetics and skincare. I also know American Sign Language, Spanish, and French.

"Connor was great! He did my wedding photography and was timely, responsive, and really paid attention to the types of pictures I cared about most. He takes a great candid and somehow managed to be everywhere without ever feeling intrusive (which was great if you're not a natural in front of the camera, like me). Can't recommend him enough for his skill and professionalism--and he's a great value to boot!"
